Just a few administrative details...

Hello and Welcome!

I just have a few things I wanted to say before this thing really got underway. First of all, Lara and I are your administrators (as of right now, anyway.) Everyone is encouraged to post original content, but only Lara and I can do things like post polls, links, and lists and change the general set up. So if you have any ideas for any of that, please let one of us know and we'll help you out.

Second, at the moment, this blog is set up as a public blog. It is not, however, crawled by web browsers and it has not been added to the blogspot directory. What that means is that anyone can get to the blog, but you can only get to the blog if you have the web address, so we shouldn't have to worry about too many random people stumbling in. However, use common sense when posting personal details. This is, after all, still the internet. Don't post passwords or SSNs or anything like that. And while this family does have a tendency to refer to family units by the street they live on, lets try to leave the house numbers out of this - if just for my own peace of mind. We all know where the Cayuga St gang lives. No need to tell everyone else. :)

Third, even if you don't have anything to post now, sign up to be an author. We can have up to 100 authors. You might as well have the permission in case something comes up in the future. And if Lara missed someone in her initial email, please forward it on to them. We don't want to exclude anyone. Open it up to more extended family if you want to. It's not exactly a secret society! We think this could be a really great tool to keep everyone in the family up-to-date and on the same page, but it only works if the whole family uses it.

Lastly, this is our blog. Have fun with it! Post pictures, post thoughts, post details of your kid's birthday party. You can even use the comments section to tell everyone what you plan to bring to a certain event. This could really come in handy while planning family trips, parties, and even family reunions! We can take polls, we can post slideshows - this site has a lot of functionality if we just use it. This blog will only be as good as we make it, but there's enough of us that Lara and I really think we can make it great! So here we go...
