My First 9 to 5

Yes, school is out for summer, but this year I decided not to pack up the Solara and head home. After typing up my resume, I decided that Victoria's Secret didn't look too impressive or pertinent to public health (although trying on underwear is a serious crime against public health, in my opinion). In case anyone was interested, this summer I'll be interning in the Office of the President at the American Legacy Foundation. The ALF's mission is to build a world where young people can reject tobacco and anyone can quit. Woo hoo, health promotion!! You may be familiar with their Truth campaign or their newer campaign, Become an EX. The truth campaign has been really successful in helping teens "stick it to the man", the man being Big Tobacco. Anyway, I'm working 9-5:30...I know, such a big kid!! The office is right near DuPont Circle, so it's nice to get off the hilltop and explore another part of Washington for once in three years!! So far, I've really just been getting used to the office, the foundation, and the staff. That means lots of filing, fed-exing and research. When I meet the president of the foundation next week, we'll be talking about the research project I'll be working on for the summer. It has something to do with images of smoking in the newspaper, but beyond that, I'm not too sure what it entails. Anyway, that's how I'll be spending 40 hours of my week this summer. I can't wait to get home to see everyone, though. Angela's wedding is right around the corner. Until then, I miss my Big Happy Family!!

You're going to have so much fun in Dupont! My favorite part was always Kramerbooks (bookstore and all-out restaurant), but there are tons of great restaurants and bars in that area. I'm a little jealous! Can't wait to see you.
Love,
Amy
